I can't believe you guys are all still here! My Edit* is gathering dust in the basement, but I have a tiny one-time gig that I'd like to do on Premiere Pro 2.0. It's primarily a teaching job. Lyn, you'll probably be able to steer me here.
DV project.
No FX (OK, maybe dissolves)
No motion graphics
Very little sync sound
Voice over and CD music
Output to DVD recorder via analog
Entire production about five minutes long
I need to buy a laptop to do this and I'd like it to be one of the small notebooks, maybe a Toshiba.
Toshiba U300
IntelŪ PentiumŪ dual-core processor T2130, 2GB DDR2 SDRAM, 160GB HDD (5400RPM, S-ATA) Firewire port, but unsure of compatibility with PP 2.0
Am I dreaming?
Will PP2.0 run on this?
Will USB 2.0 be fast enough for a DV media drive?
Thanks!
Strong possibility of NAB this year, my first since '96! :)

Hi Peter -
That would be great! I hope you can make it.
To answer your questions about Prermiere Pro, perhaps it would be best to just give you a link to their website listing of minimum system requirements for the current version (CS3), which also includes optimization suggestions:

Thanks, Lyn. Good info there. Finding out what laptops meet these specs is the issue. In any case, it looks like USB 2.0 ain't gonna cut it for a media drive, even for plain old DV.
More homework. :)
Hopefully see some of you guys in April. My lawyers told me that DRW said he's buying me a beer.
