Hello everyone,
I noticed that windows vista has a "run in NT mode" feature and it actually worked for a NT version of dreamweaver. Has anyone tried to run Edit* on vista?

Hi Dan -

Every version of Windows has a 'compatibility' mode, and I would imagine Vista is no different. Edit will probably run OK, but installing the Targa (or DigiSuite) drivers would be a different matter.

Purely speculation on my part however, as I have not tried it.

Hi Lyn,
I run digisuiteLE and desktop. Do you think matrox has any interest in drivers for vista or are they committed to the new stuff exclusively? I guess I really want a ray of hope, Edit* is still running in my little world.

Dan -

AFAIK, Matrox has no plans to write Vista drivers for any obsolete product.

You could go with XP ... which would be a better choice than Vista anyway.

Hi Dan,

We've still got one edit system running on XP no problems . . .(just don't hit the window key and be careful about where the media goes when creating a new job - other than that she's hunky dory).

It's a Digisuite version on XP service pack 1 . . .Dunno if installing SP2 would make any difference. I guess we figured it was working OK so we haven't bothered.

It's about to get the old heave ho tho. As soon as our Axio LE arrives. 'Tis sad, it still does things 6 years on that PPro won't do...

Good Luck.

Hello Alex,
This is good news. I'LL give XP a shot and see what happens. The disk I have includes SP2 so wish me luck.

The "old heave Ho" seems so harsh. Maybe "retire" or "decommission".

Dan,

[Dan Bigbee Jr] "I'LL give XP a shot and see what happens."

I knew that one of our Aussie brethren was running under XP, but I just couldn't remember who. Before you start, I'd wait for Alex to say whether he installed straight into XP (I think so) rather than into some sort of NT emulation mode. Also download the XP drivers for your Matrox hardware before starting. Perhaps Alex could fire up his system and check the numbers of all the drivers since he has a system that works. It might save you some grief.

Good Luck,

Ron Shook

Sorry, I should have said, "Gracefully put out to pasture."

Sigh...

From memory, as it's been a while now, I don't think we used any NT compatibility mode, we just installed edit straight onto XP.

We're using 7.2 version of the digiutils and the G450 display card.

Anything else I might be able to tell you Dan that might be helpful (and that I can answer) please ask.

Cheers,
Alex

Thanks for the suggestions Ron, and Alex for adding your info. It looks like this upgrade should only take a few hours. I've said that before and then find myself looking up three days later.

"gracfully out to pasture" is much kinder.

Hello Dan,

I'm not entirely sure about this, it may jog Alex's memory though, but you may have to insall the Edit patches under NT emulation mode. I couldn't, for memory, get the patches for Edit6 to run properly under WIN 2000. They would appear to execute but actually not install the updated files correctly. I think however, under XP in NT emulation mode they will run/install correctly.

regards and good luck,
Simon
