OT but what isn't around here?: JVC HDV

I'm thinking about the JVC GY-HD100U as an interim HDV solution. Can't quite see swinging for the current generation of Sony XDCAM HD -- it looked great at NAB, but it seems like too much money for a 1/2" imager.
re: JVC. Talk me down please. I like the spec's, 24P, and the overall form factor, but wonder whether JVC's flavor of HDV will get me in trouble for editing, compatibility with footage from more ubiquitous sources like the Sony HDV cameras, etc.

[Bob Cole]"Is there a deck which can play any flavor of HDV from any camera?"
As far as I can tell, all the flavors of HDV are different and if you're going to get a deck you need to get the one for your camera. It's bogus. That's why I'm not getting a deck. I'm going to try using the JVC hard drive attachment and use the camera as a deck when I have to.
Given the state of things I wouldn't even buy a camera yet but I need one now. The JVC is progressive, has much better ergonomics than the Canon (my second choice) and it's cheaper. I'll probably get a better camera a year or two down the road depending on what becomes available.

I'm probably going to buy one of these cameras. I'm hanging back though because the HD110 is supposed to be out "mid July" according to JVC, which I guess is Monday. We'll see. If I get one I'll let you know how good it is.

Isn't the new HD250 the Cat Daddy of the line? Didn't they add HD-SDI output with that? A friend of mine has the 100 and is getting the deck and the hard drive for it. He's been really pleased with the performance.

There's also the new 110 replacing the 100... Jeez. I can remember when there were whole years when cameras didn't change.
Anybody have insights into how important the 100->110 change is? Apparently there's some kind of promotional A.Bauer battery deal with the "old" 100's which won't be true of the slightly modified 110's.
Makes me want to take up charcoal sketching again.

I haven't really investigated that. The optional zoom I think is about $10,000 so I'm guessing it's better than the stock lens. I've seen some good images online taken with the stock lens though.
