In the middle of a reality series and the broadcaster wants a "film look". No problem, did it last two seasons with 3 Prong Speed Ramp plug in. Only truble now is we're in HD and the render time for the plug in (whole show) is now 10 hours. Not acceptable.

Is there a box that does this real time?

I need to go 1080i/50 to 1080p. Production company doesn't want to acquire in progressive as there is a lot of fast moving sport action. Shooting XDCam HD/50MBps (which is just lovely by the way, really nice pics).

Aja FS-1?

Anyone?

Hey Kris,

What editing system are you using?
Is there an option to "force" a progressive time-line?
Or just play-back one field? - not optimal, but for speed...

And how are you ingesting the footage?
Can you programme the player to play back in Progressive?

Alternatively you are into the territory of Black boxes such as Terranex or Snell. (I don't know the AJA, there is much smarter people around for that :-))
You should be fine if you use the box on mastering out, so do everything else per normal. Unless we're talking F1?

Mads, we're cutting in Avid Mojo DX land.

We're ingesting the XD via firewire and USB for the online. No realtime ingest at all.
I'm trying to avoid converting on ingest because it usually adds a frame or two of latency. I'm thinking I will do my online in 50i and then field merge on playout. For today I will do a duplicated field render of the timeline... not ideal but it will get me through this episode. I have sent the broadcaster this type of 'film effect' before on lower budget shows and they have been fine with it. The only crossconvert option in Avid is to 720p/50 which is outside our delivery spec (must be 1080 - 4:2:2)

I have tracked down an Edirol VC300HD which will do a 1080/50i in ----> 1080/25psf out. I have used it before to do standards conversion and was quite impressed with the picture quality.

Will post back with results early next week.
