HP LP2475W - a reasonable compromise?
by Robert Narholz on Oct 21, 2009 at 3:31:56 am

Hi,

I've searched the Cow frequently to see if there is any word out there about the HP LP2475W - but all users seem to be saying is that they "think about getting one".

Is there anybody out there who actually has one, or has first or second hand information about it? The reviews on other sites are full of praise.

I am specifically looking for a monitor being fed via HDMI through my KONA LHI (from new Mac Pro) for video editing and some color grading (FCP, AE, Color).

I am also looking at the Dreamcolor, which has been extensively discussed in this forum - but is four times the cost, for the 2 extra bits. I am sure these bits are worth it, however: Can I get away with Dreamcolor's little 8bit brother?

Information greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Robert

this is not dreamcolor's little brother. Its a computer monitor. You can use it like you would a Dell 2408, or any other LCD monitor. You can use it with the DVI port and a Blackmagic or AJA converter as well (but you want HDMI so you don't have to buy anything else). Will it work - sure it will work. Will it be accurate - what do you care - you are not dealing with hi end clients.

Like the dreamcolor, this monitor uses a IPS panel. The same panel technology used in FSI monitors etc.

Is it accurate? Yes. On par with the $1,000 NEC's.

Can it be calibrated to REC 709 standards? Yes.

It is not as easy as the dreamcolor, you have to do some calibrating on your own and know your way around these things, but it can be done.

I should mention that I wouldn't recommend it as your only monitoring solution!

REPLY - well, I should mention that people that ask questions like this have no money available to them, and this will be the ONLY monitoring solution they have.
