best solution HD monitoring

hi am thinking about getting the black magic card intensity

for my mac pro
Mac Pro
Model Identifier: MacPro4,1
Processor Name: Quad-Core Intel Xeon
Processor Speed: 2.26 GHz
Number Of Processors: 2
Total Number Of Cores: 8

then monitoring out of the card to an HD TV input HDMI (flat screen Best Buy 1080i)
is this a sound plan?

It depends on what you want to do. If you want to monitor for audio work your plan is good. However, if you intend to edit video and do color grading, you need a much better monitor. Checkout FSI monitors (you can click on their yellow banner on the left of the page) or other grade 1 monitors.

thanks those look like the real deal.
i do need to do color correcting is there any thing round a grand or under that will give me HD?
have the apple 23 inch cinema display for now do i need more?

I agree with Jeff. However, pairing an Apple 23" monitor with an MXO is doable. We tried that for a short while a few years ago. I looked at it side- by-side with our Panny 17" HD field monitor and it was very close. I've never tried that comparison with our TVLogic monitor. Todya, I'd go with an FSI. Then you don't have to worry about what you're looking at. And, clients who know a little about edit gear will feel comfortable.

Just a word of caution if you're planning on using a consumer plasma/LCD monitor for your main monitor... you need to factor in that these monitors often have at least 2 frames of delay. If you're using it for critical audio work it's going to do your head in.
