How do you shoot this kind of video? Do you need a special camera or the regualr hd cam's out there?

TIA

Sam

Rotate your camera by 90 degrees.

Do the same for your monitor.

How do you accurately do that?

What type of equipment do you need?

TIA

Sam

Hey Sam.

A pillow, Box, strong arm, drunk focus puller, tripod or a DOP... take your pick - but not knowing how to rotate a camera 90 degrees to match the screen, should be a concern.

That's why i'm asking how to do it properly. :)

I don't think a regular tripod would achieve this plus after you get it 90 degrees, I'm assuming that you have to manipulate the video in some kind of NLE to get the video vertical right?

Hey Sam.

NO. You turn the camera on its side - there is a large number of mounts available from your local hire-shop to do this with. You might want to consider having a monitor on location or choose a camera that has a very flexible view finder.

If you do it in post, you will end up loosing up to 80% of the original resolution...

ok that sounds easy enough but what do you do with the sideways video that you have in the nle timeline?

I think I understand. The video will be sideways always. You have to turn the monitor sideways to view it vertically.

Sorry for the brain freeze - it's been a long day already. :)

You turn your editing suite 90 degrees too - best done with a wireless keyboard and mouse - just be careful when turning the Raid storage - the ethernet should be ok. Also, when shooting 24fps, frame number 24 tends to fall off - can I suggest that you confirm this with our favourite colleague Bob Zelin?
