Apple Pro Res.
by Marc Poirier on Aug 26, 2008 at 5:55:50 pm

Hi. I have a show to output in HD, it's animation, no video. the tech specs are 1080i @ 59.94.

my timeline is set to apple pro res 422. 1920 x 1080

When I set my timeline to 59.94, the field box changes from field to square... does that mean it doesn't use fields anymore but frames?

the output will still be interlace if I use a HDCam SR?

Thanks!

Markyyyy

[Marc Poirier] " the tech specs are 1080i @ 59.94."

this would be interlaced at 29.97 frames or 59.94 fields

[Marc Poirier] "the output will still be interlace if I use a HDCam SR? "

Yes it will be interlaced no matter what tape format.

OK thanks..

so what is the difference then in setting my timeline in 29.94fps vs 59.94fps if they are the same?

in non HD environment, is 29.94frames per sec still has 2 fields per frames (I would think so) then technically we could edit DV in 59.94 fps.

Thanks!

Marc.

One is FIELDS per second and one is FRAMES per second. 29.97 frames for = 59.94 fields for interlaced material

One has to be careful with the frames vs fields issues. In the 1080 world all of the content plays back as interlace or as "progressive segmented frames" so the 29.97 vs 59.94 is carryover from the SD world. In HD we have a myriad of frame rates to deal with so most have adopted as standard the 59.94 timing for most HD Prosumer and consumer formats, but not for Sony's HD camera which still call 60i as 29.97
this was complicated ( simplified) by Panasonic and JVC's decision in supporting the 720 HD spec which are set at a 59.94 FRAMEs per second timebase instead of the 59.94 FIELDS of 1080 broadcast.

OK.. so if some animations where made in 30frames per second and brought in a 59.94 fields per second timeline, there shouldn't be any problem..

thanks for the precision..

Marc.

Correct - that would be the normal workflow for graphics and animation for video.
