gee - your Xserver RAID is not fast enough ! What a surprise (it happens to all XServe RAID's).

This is not an AJA issue. Right now, (since you have the AJA card), go to AJA Utilities and run AJA System Test. Select the XServe RAID - this will test your drive speed - choose a 1 Gig file size, and choose the 1920x1080 RGB frame size. If you are not getting 220mb/sec (which I bet you money you are not), you are NOT going to be doing uncompressed HD on these drive arrays. End of story. Don't believe me. Pull out your AJA LHe card (since you are blaming it right now), and run the AJA System Test again - same results right ? If you are getting about 160 - 170mb/sec, this is typical for a "well used" XServe RAID. But if you are getting 60-70mb/sec on your XServe RAID - well you are screwed (and good luck).

Go into Raid Admin, under SETTINGS (your password will be "private"), and check to see that CACHE FLUSHING is turned off. Apply, close out of Raid Admin, and test your drive speed again. Still too slow - too bad.

On these user forums, you will see countless drive manufacturers that are selling RAID 5 drive arrays that will do over 500mb/sec without issue - these include Dulce Systems, G-Tech, Maxx Digital, Cal Digit, Sonnet Technologies and others. ALL OF THESE SYSTEMS will do uncompressed HD. Want to stick with Apple and get RELIABLE RESULTS - buy the new Apple Promise VTrak 16 bay drive array (if you have that kind of money).

You are posting information about your XServe RAIDs that is "old news" to me, and I have suffered thru the same thing you are going thru right now.

Bob,
Thanks for the info...This HD world has been a bumpy ride for me...Think I'll go shoot some underwater with my new Gates Ex-1 housing and wash away this "techno-stress"

I have a friend that lives on the island. His name is Joe Sugarman, also known as Mr. BluBlocker. He lives in a huge house in the 3000 block of S. Kihei. He supposedly has the only house that is actually on the beach. You can find him hawking sunglasses on QVC and he sells just over a million bucks worth of BluBlockers in an hour. We went to visit him in July of '07. His guest house rents for $10k a month. We stayed at the Maui Prince, which is where we spent our honeymoon.
