JB has a valid question / concern.
The truth is that several offline editors, online editors, colorists, etc. are merely freelancers...so they work at big, mid-level and small HD post production houses.
As long as they have access to the same equipment at each post company, that leaves the producer paying for the post house's overhead and to line the pockets of middle-men - since the talent is exactly the same.
I have been a focused HD editor since 1999, and have seen this happen over and over. I started Saturnalia Productions -
http://www.saturnaliaproductions.com/ - in order to offer producers access to the same stable of talent for 1/2 the rates of large post houses in Los Angeles. I can do so by eliminating / minimizing the overhead and offering start-to-finish HD solutions.
Best,
Kevin
