I do corporate video for a large business. Our writers want to use TV or Movie themes in their scripts. Usually the videos are used for teaching purposes. We do not broadcast or give to clients. The program is used for internal purposes teaching or training only. Is this legal?
Whatever the case, can someone point me to supporting documentation interpreting the law. The law itself is very difficult to read through.

Are you lifting clips or doing a parody?

If you have someone who can use Garage Band they could mimic the original theme, but with enough variation to make it an original composition. This would be a new work not subject to copyright, especially since it is for internal use only. However, getting music composed, even by Garage Band, takes some talent which might not be available in your corporation. HTH

The answer is simple. If you want to use a copywritten theme for parody or othewise, unless you have permission from the copyright holders, you can't do it. It doesn't matter who it's for. It could be for a charity or non-profit. It doesn't matter. You have to obtain permission. While it can take some time to obtain permission, it is doable. But, it will cosat you some $. Often the $ is reasonable. Doing this without permission is risking a very big lawsuit.
