Hello
a Client wants to give me a few miniDV tapes that contained HD material shot on a Panasonic AG-HVX200. (DVCPRO HD format) 1920x1080.
I have a friend that has a Canon XH-A1 that shots on HDV (1440x1080).
Can I capture the footage from Panasonic AG-HVX200 using a canon XH-A1?
also If i have a macbook pro, final cut and i am using 3 external hard drives through i daisy chain. Should i use firewire 800? or any other thing to connect them. would it run smoothly using DVCPRO footage?
Thank you!
Leon.

Hi
Thanks..
for the 2nd question..
you meant. No, there isnt something else besides firewire... or ... firewire wont work?
It really depends on what codec you're using and how much other stuff is going on - The FireWire connection itself should be able to handle it, but the drives will be pushed if you're going full 1920*1080.

No
the HVX 200 only shoots SD to tape, it is my understanding that there is NO METHOD for putting DVCPROHD content onto a MiniDV tape- the panasonic decks will not do it, and no camera records DVCPROHD to MiniDV.

You do not have DVCPro HD on a mini dv tape. The HVX 200 does not record in HD to the tape drive.
What you would have on the tape is DVCPro footage. The question is which flavor? Is it DVCPro 25 or 50?
This is a good example of why you should just use the cards to shoot on. Shoot on the cards, transfer the footage to a drive, and just bring it where you want with no worries about capturing tape. Even if you don't know what it is you can get into the NLE by elimination.

[Kyle Self]"What you would have on the tape is DVCPro footage. The question is which flavor? Is it DVCPro 25 or 50?"
Not quite right.
What he has on the tape, if anything, is DV, just plain ole DV. The HVX200 does not shoot anything to tape but DV, not DVCPro, 25 or 50 and certainly not DVCProHD. This is the single largest misunderstanding about the 200.
You should be able to put that tape in any DV deck or camera and capture it.

your right, my brain wandered. I never liked the camera so I just kinda forgot about it.
