HDcam w/fogel net and CC

Hello Cows.

I've been color correcting some hdcam footage. On boosting gain I get horrible grain in the image. Turns out the DP used a fogel net on the lens (is that how it's spelled?). Is it possible that this is what is causing the undesirable grain? Instinctually this seems like a very bad idea. It is not film and any attempt to mimic film should be done in post right?
