I am building my new studio and this time its going to be geared heavily towards Video Editing.
I've seen those Specific Sony (and other) video monitors that all the suites have, but how 'acceptable' is it to move away from that and do all your editing on a Large LCD or Plasma TV ? Can i build a video suite around a Large LCD and still get professional results? How common is that with LCD's falling in prices.

Hi Dennis
What would your rather have - a couple of nice Tannoy NFMs or Radio Shack self powered speakers to monitor audio on? What would a video editor rather have - an LCD or a hi-res CRT?
Obviously price is a factor in both questions above. If you are aware of the faults of your monitor you can overcome them and your editing will be fine. I'm assuming you are speaking of fairly critical monitoring like color corrections, etc. I have a 42" plasma for normal HD viewing in my suite and having cranked the controls a great deal it looks fairly similar to my Ikegami 14" HD CRT monitor. I certainly can see more detail on the plasma, although I get true color rendition on the Ike. The Toshiba 42HL196 REGZA XHD is full 1920x1080 resolution for under $2K. Westinghouse also sells HD res monitors. Your clients will be happy watching beautiful picutres on these. Somewhere in your studio or available to you, however, there has to be a Hi Res Reference monitor for quality control of color output. Best of luck in your search.
