DVC Pro HD problems...

Hello -
This has happened twice now... shooting a Varicam in 720p... capturing on a G5, FCP. Twice now on different shoots/projects... with a Varicam, I have had problems capturing my footage... the error message that pops up is... "3/2 pulldown cadence error". On one of the tapes, I avoided a suspect section of the tape and was able to capture the material... no luck on the other tape.
I have tried capturing "controlled and "uncontrolled", same result (error)... is this a camera/capture problem... or a FCP/capture problem??
Rhozet Carbon? by Ben Waggoner on Jun 28, 2006 at 4:05:21 pm
My alternative go-to tool for DVCPROHD file decoding is Rhozet's Carbon. Cineform's Prospet HD can do live capture of DVCPROHD and transcode to their own AVI codec.

Rhozet Carbon encoder looks like best value between Sonic SineVision($70K) and Inlet Fathom($20K)
Ben, what version of Windows Media Encoder used CanalPlus for HD DVD?

HD DVD titles aren't actually made with Windows Media Encoder - they use some in development tools that aren't generally available. We've just released an early public beta of what we're working on this Friday:

Russ,
How are you capturing: via FW or through a capture card? If a card, which one and which VTR?
What settings are you using? Is this a 59.94 or 23.98 capture (with on-the-fly pulldown removal)?
Were any settings changed by the DP between the good and the "bad" sections? Are you capturing across a stop/start in the recording? This could have resulted in a cadence change if you are trying to remove pulldown.
I've done a fair amount of this using a 1200A and Kona2 card. No problems, so far.

[Russ in Atlanta]"not trying to remove pulldown"
Russ,
I think this may be an optional issue. You can only capture 23.98 if you remove pulldown on ingest. The Varicam records 59.94 with pulldown, so you have 24 valid frames out of 60 frames/sec and the rest are redundant. Which deck are you using?
