Could someone help me walk though this process? I shot some HD content at 23.98 on HDCAM and took a downconverted signal out of my JH-3 player that added a pulldown to make it 29.97. I then edited on a DV 29.97 sequence. What do I need to do now to get my edit onto a 8bit uncompressed 23.98 timeline for my online?
Thanks

(I also posted this in response to your query to my earlier post)
As I described in the initial post,
I used cinema tools to convert an EDL.
1. Export EDL from your 29.97 project (all video clips need to be on track V1 OR you need to do a separate EDL for each video track). Also, you might want to add handles at this point for when you recapture. I used the CMX 3600 EDL.
2. Save this EDL in an easy-to-find location
3. Open cinema tools
4. Choose: File>Export>Converted EDL> 24 FPS from 30 FPS
5. Save this new 24 FPS EDL in an easy-to-find location
6. Create new FCP project with new sequence settings for hi-res HD (use Easy Setup)
7. Choose: File>Import>EDL...
8. Make sure to choose your converted EDL and import this into your sequence
9. It will make a bin of your master clips and a sequence.
10. IMPORTANT: check your reel names. Make sure they are correct. The EDL process will reduce the name to 8 characters.
11. Unless I've skipped a step, you should be ready to recapture.

To use cinema tools to change my 29.97 timeline back to 23.98 do I need to have had cinema tools change my source clips from 23.98 to 29.97? If so that may be a problem because I let my JH-3 HDCAM deck add the pulldown. I am reading the manual and sources online that tell me that I need to have my database open to change my EDL back to 23.98, but I have no database since my deck did the transfer. Any help would be great as I am now stuck in limbo waiting to online this project.
Thanks

For some reason when I export from FCP i get 2 edl's....one with the name I picked and the second with the name I picked plus "B" at the end. Is my export not setup correctly if I am getting 2 files? I still cannot import the EDL that I create from Cinema tools into FCP to start the online. I am at a complete loss at this point.

The problem is that I really don't need to except for the fact that I have 3 projects on my xserve. Who would have thought that 2.5 tb wouldn't be enough. My other 2 are uncompressed and I thought that this way would be easy.

As for importing your 23.98 (converted) EDL, you might have to change "Show: EDL files" to "Show: All files". This is not ideal, but you might be able to import without a problem.
Otherwise, in the CMX 3600 EDL, I kept things as simple as possible.
- Target video track only (all your clips on one track for this to work, or do separate EDLs)
- Reel conflics: generic edits
