Its official.. Voom will shut down.

Can any broadcaster make money with HD programming as a pure play without the mass of SD
content to support its future?

The future of broadcasting is internet broadcasting in high definition. With internet broadcasting anyone can own a high definition television studio.

Yes, in the long term. However HD over IP requires at least 3 Mbps sustained bandwidth for real-time playback. We've got a while before that is mass market.

Downloadable content is a lot easier, of course. I'd expect MovieLink or CinemaNow to dive into HD file-based distribution before long.
