Backup and restore projects

I'm using LE6.1, I'm ready to upgrade to Avid Liquid 7 and would like to backup all my projects on to an external drive. I think I’m backing them up right but I’m not having much luck in restoring any projects. I’m pretty sure that all the files are here but I don’t think LE knows where to find them. I’m not having much luck in showing LE where they are either. I'm not sure that I even know where they are. Can anyone help? I find this very confusing but I don't think it has to be.
I want to make sure I can do this right before I install AL7.

If you used the backup/restore feature of Liquid, your backups must be inside another folder and not in the root directory of another drive. If they are not in another folder, then create a folder and move them into it. The folder can be called anything you want. Then use restore and point to that folder and Liquid should see your backups.
