Upgrade to Liquid Chrome Xe
by Frank Tucker on Sep 26, 2008 at 4:29:09 am

Pinnacle is offering an upgrade to Chrome Xe for $599.00. I have an ASUS Motherboard with an AMD 6000+ processor and 4gb RAM. Does anyone know if this is adequate to run Chrome? They only spec the HP boxes as compatible because of the AJA capture board but I in tend to use it initially as software only untill I upgrade my equipment.

Is this a good upgrade price and will it run on what I brung? The offer ends Sunday the 28th.

Thanks,

Nope. Just planning for future HD hopes (undetermined projects). I don't think the AJA card is verified with my hardware configuration. I was just trying to take advantage of a possible upgrade path if it was a good value. Not shure when I will upgrade my hardware but at $599.00 to upgrade to Chrome Xe I thought this might position me well in future projects when I do replace my hardware (about 6 months or so). Since there seems to be no significant information from Pinnacle on the future release of the Liquid replacement, I was hoping this upgrade will hold me until this is resolved and a reasonable upgrade path and price are forthcomming.

Any thoughs would be appreciated. I need to order by Sunday to get the price.

Liquid Chrome along with the AJA card and a qualified system is one of the cheapest ways to get into a system with these capabilities. It depends on what your HD needs are. Do you need analog HD in and out and an SDI interface? The future of HD and video in general seems to be moving toward file based cameras and HDMI interfaces.

I currently us an FS4Pro disk recorder with my Canon XLH1 but as you know this still delivers HDV. I would like to see in my home studio setting what the capbilities and quality difference is in using the component and eventually the HD-SDI aspects of this camera. I would like to stay with the Canon cameras as I'm comfortable with them and believe that they will be supported in the near future with accessories and features (in newer models with both flash memory recorders and HDMI). I am begining to use chroma keying more and more in my projects at work and personal and I would like to explore the difference in key quality of the HDV based video and that of the 4:2:2 from the other ports on the XLH1. I think the Chrome Xe software will position me to start this experimentation. Since I will not be initially running the AJA Card, this is a software only first step.
