Liquid 7 set up with RAID 0
by Carl Lindgren on Jun 23, 2008 at 3:48:38 am

I am installing Liquid 7 on a Dell Precision T7400 workstation with a Quad Core processor (2.66GHz, 4GB RAM) that has two Seagate 300 Gb, 15K SAS drives set in a RAID 0 configuration. The video card is a 512MB PCIe x16 nVidia Quatro FX1700.

For setting up the system would it make more sense to partition the hard drive to separate the rendering and video capture or use an external HD. I will be using a Seagate FreeAgent 750GB external HD for back up and I could route the video rendering there.

If partitioning is the way to go do you have any recommendations of where to go for instructions or guidance?

Thanks,

Carl

Put your media and renders on your RAID array. That should work fine and is how I have my system setup. I don't recommend partitioning drives.

Hi Carl,

Anychance you are running Avid software? we have a similar machine, and would like to know if Avid MC3.0 can fly on this machine...

See below post...

Anyone using a Dell T7400 w/ MC3.0 and a Mojo DX box? We have several error problems - This "Core_unable_to_do" error code may be generic in nature from Avid, but is a system crasher. Another "Legend audio underrun" error code pops up, but is not a system crasher.

We have a Dell machine w/ alot of horsepower - dual quad procs, 8gigs ram, nvidia1700 (which may a problem itself). Any and all help would be greatly appreciated as our project is held up due to Avid throwing fits. We are also trying to integrate new Sony EX1 footage via clip browser, which is also highly suspect due to the newness of it all (Both Avid MC3.0, the EX1, the Mojo DX, and a non-supported Dell box (but seeminly sufficiently powerful - I have a similae Dell running Avid Express Pro on a Dell Precision 690 just fine).

Our configuration is:
Dell T7400 Dual Quad procs at 2.9ghtz
8 gigs RAM
Nvidia 1700 card / dual monitor
GSpeed eS 2 Terabyte RAID w/ PCIe card
Mojo DX w/PCIe card

Many thanks for anyone chiming in...

Regards,
Graham G.
