half bracket on cursor

half bracket on cursor
Somehow I have gotten a left bracket back side of the cursor and I can't select clips on timeline.
Can someone please advise on what the heck I did...and how to get rid of this...

On the toolbar is an icon that lets you select between edit and scubbing mode. You are now in scrub mode. It looks like a left upward pointing arrow. It should be highlighted in yellow to be in edit mode. You can also shift between modes temporarily by hitting the ALT key.
