Audio and Video not in sync!! Help!!!
by David Katz on Jan 31, 2008 at 1:36:54 pm

Hey Guys,
I have Avid Liquid 7.2 and I'm in the middle of a project. When i play my video in Avid before i export, meaning straight from the timeline in the little screen in the program, the audio and video work together nicely. BUT when i export to a file, the audio comes out of sync. I am recording in 24p mode on a CanonHV-20, but i am forced to rip the vide off the tape as regular DV rather than HDV. Could this be a problem? Should i record in DV mode? My computer is running on an Asus p4p800 se motherboard. I have an Nvidia Geforce5200 vid card, but use the onboard soundcard. Is that a problem. I have 1gb ram, windows xp, and lots of hard drive space spread over two drives. The thing that bugs me the most is that it works in avid but when i export im getting screwed. Please help, all comments will be appreciated. I believe the audio is slower than the vid. Im unsure because im not home, but even so could i get explanations for both scenarios....Thanks

Liquid does not support the 24p mode of that camera so that is probably your problem. Liquid cannot do the proper pulldown for that 24fps format.

Onboard sound is also sometimes an issue. If you work with regular 29.97fps DV material, do you still see this problem?

Is there any way i could use this footage, maybe a program that could go in between the tape and avid to convert it to useable video??? Ive been able to use 24p footage in avid correctly but somehow this project is out of sync...weird right? is there a sync button ?

How about fusing the whole thing?

Im pretty new to Avid, what would this consist of..Im also mixing HD and SD...I recorded in HD but when i outputted the footage to my comp i set the canon's output to DV rather than HDV. Should i get the footage as Dv or its original quality and then put it in avid and then Output it with the same resolution as the SD??? How can i fuse?
