Hi All,

Whenever I feed image into a Hyperdeck Studio and now also a Smartview Duo, the image is squashed in width, adding black to either side. Anyone know why?

Sounds like you are feeding an SD-signal into the units. Unfortunately, Blackmagic Design products does not like SD 16:9 signals, as there really is no way of knowing whether the signal is SD 4:3 or SD 16:9.

Thanks for that, I feared that was going to be the answer. Yes it is SD being fed into the units, which I would think would be something still reasonably common. It would be great if all systems had transitioned over to HD but various things will still limit that for sometime yet.

It's more than a bit of a design flaw I would argue...

Unfortunately, the design flaw is in widescreen SD. No intrinsic flag in the video signal for hardware to identify. The flag exists only in FILES, not video streams.
