Monitoring without a deck

Hi, I'm in the process of setting up a new system using existing kit that has come from another studio.
I've got a G5 with a Decklink HD Pro 4:2:2 card (although it's called a Decklink HD Pro (Single Link) in the system prefs if that makes any difference)
At things stand at the moment I don't have a deck so I want to connect a broadcast monitor directly so I can use it in Final Cut Pro. I know that all this kit is compatible with each other as I've used in a different location. The only difference is I don't have a deck this time. I assumed that this would be OK but it doesn't seem to be happening.
I've got the output from the card going straight into the monitor and have tried various set ups but all I get a shash. It seems to be sending something but not a decent signal.

I've got the output from the card going into the input of the monitor via SDI (BNC). By control panel do you mean 'system prefs' on a mac? I've got two options in the output - Analogue Y, B-Y, R-Y or Analogue NTSC/PAL (Y out). I've tried both but no change.

You should have SDI out in pref as you insert SDI to your monitor.
If you do not get SDI from your computer just connect computer output to analogue connectorsof your monitor. I assume that pref should say SDI otherwise no luck from eny position. SDI is digital.
I assume that you had analogue going to deck and sdi from there.
Now you have no deck to "convert" so you have to connect analogue.

I have a strong suspicion that the monitor is analog only. It has composite BNC inputs, not SDI.
You can confirm this but setting your output to Analogue NTSC/PAL (Y out) in the DeckLink preferences, take the Y output from the breakout cable of the card and connect it to your monitor.

Hi,
The output you have connected on the card is definitely SDI and hence digital. The back of your monitor is composite analog. These 2 are not compatible. There should be a breakout cable that connects to the breakout port on the back of the card. You need to use the Y output connector on the breakout cable.
