HDLink+Viewsonic VP2650wb in PAL

hello:
has anybody used the Viewsonic VP2650wb with HDLink?
in NTSC it works great,
but feeding PAL or HD 1080@50i only produces very pink images here
(YUV interpreted as RGB?)
any thoughts to solve this PAL problem are very wellcome.

Hi Kurt,
I'm not familiar with this monitor and haven't heard any reports about it related to HDLink. I do know some monitor do not handle PAL frame rates natively and HDLink attempts to help by providing pulldown processing to a frequency the monitor does support. If that doesn't work, then you can try the EDID override settings which are documented at step 3 in the support note HDLink and EDID Manual Override. The most likely setting to work is named Force 5:2 Interlaced Display.
This information is only relevant to HDLink. The newer HDLink Pro does not have the EDID override settings as it uses a different hardware method to detect display capabilities.

thank you luke for your tips.
but it doesnt seem to be a problem of PAL frame rates only:
- according to specs the monitor should be able to handle @50 @25 framerates
- the problem is the same with the old HDLink and the new HDLinkPro
could it be that the monitor reports YUV capability to HDLink while it cant handle in PAL?
or does HDLink/Pro allways send RGB images to the monitor?

hi luke,
I now did a test with the HDLink running EDID overriding and it works, thank you!
at least I can see the correct image in PAL, allthough movements are no more that smooth.
but the HDLinkPro using another methode to detect the monitor,
doesnt handle the situation correctly by itself.
is there another method ? I would need the Pro's 3D LUT capability.
thank you,
kurt

Hi Kurt,
Thank you for letting me know that the EDID override settings help with the HDLink. That is good news.
I'm surprised that the HDLink Pro is not automatically working with that model of monitor so we'll buy that model and test it. I don't believe that adjusting the 3D LUTs would help so we'll need to obtain this monitor.
All DVI-based monitors expect RGB video and that is what HDLink and HDLink Pro would send to the Viewsonic VP2650wb monitor. I think that the correct colorspace is being sent to the monitor otherwise you would not have been able to make HDLink work with it using the EDID override settings. We'll check it out and get back to you. Hopefully we can support this monitor with a simple HDLink software update. It will take a few days to obtain the monitor, verify your observations and then give it to the engineers for a solution. It will then take a little longer to release a solution as the engineers are flat out on allocated tasks but I'll try to squeeze in this item as soon as possible.

thank you Luke for investigating the issues!
I am shure the Viewsonic VP2650w with HDLink is a phänomenal cheap/great monitoring solution for editing, at least in NTSC, maybe with new software support even in PAL.. (thought not good enough for very color critical work)
looking forward to hear from you,
kurt
