HDLink monitoring I need answers
by Andres Bocan (Andrew07) on Jun 18, 2008 at 7:26:28 pm

Hi

I am trying to solve which card I need for monitoring my ram previews on an external monitor working in After effects CS3.

I work with 1080i sequences.

I know that there are 3 possible cards: Intensity Pro
HDLink Pro
Decklink HD extreme.

I read on After effects manual the recommendation of using HDLInk But....
I would need some SDI output on my computer right ? Is it that possible ? Is there another way to connect Mac to HDlink ?
´
The only solution I have is to purchase the Decklink HD extreme ? My need is just monitoring in realtime my RAM preview on After effects.

I am not really sure if Intensity Pro will give me a decent monitoring in colors and contrast.

I really appreciate if someone can help me with this.
Thanks

Hi,

HDLink Pro is an SDI to DVI/HDMI converter so you'll still need an SDI source.

I'm not sure what kind of external monitors you have, but HD Extreme will most likely be the best choice as it provides component HD, HD-SDI as well as HDMI outputs.

Kristian:

Thanks for your answer.
I have a Viewsonic VX2835wm LCD 1920x1080 28¨.

I am aware that Decklink HD extreme is a good choice but wouldn´t it be enough to have Intensity Pro in terms of just monitoring my work?

Is there any difference of having DeckLink HD extreme or Intensity pro if I will just monitor my RAM previews in After Effects ?

I appreciate your response
Thanks

This is exactly where I'm stuck too. I'm looking for high quality, full framerate Previews out of AE and FCP but the Decklink HD Extreme just seems like overkill. It just does so much I don't need. But I am constantly warned on all forums about the 1080 performance of the Intensity Pro. So the HD Extreme it is?

I have exactly the same issue at the moment - are you sure Intensity cant preview HD? Whats about Maxtor MXO - anybody knows if this device can handle HD preview in AF?

Thank you. Marco

No I am not sure.

I have read just some posts that said that. But my problem is that what I need is to have realtime preview. I may have understood that you can see HD 1080 with intensity card but in static frame. When you try to make ram preview, even if your PC or MAC gives you realtime ram preview you will just see 15 fps.
If you have some info please tell me.

I will leave you my email. If you want let me know yours. We could help each other with this.

having tried the Intensity Pro now, I am disappointed about performance in After Effects.

Linked to my BenQ Monitor via HDMI its just giving me 9fps in bad looking 1080i as a video preview. So please save your money - its not working for After Affects.

I am wondering if the problem is coursed by After Effects rather then the card? The performance in final cut is fine -(still 1080i)
I am Able o playback HD1080 in AfterEffects, but gsending it th the video preview slows it down s much.

What is about the thing with connecting HDMI to DVI - will this make any differences?

If anybody out there has a solution please get in contact.
