Extreme live capture & pass through
by Paul Dankers on May 12, 2008 at 9:57:45 pm

I am thinking about buying the black magic extreme to install on an Intel Quad Core XP Pro machine, but before I purchase it, I was wondering if anybody has tried the following:

Input HD SDI directly from a video camera

Input multi track digital AES sound directly from a 48 channel mixer

Capture them together on a RAID striped configured hard drive

Pass the video and sound through together to the single HD SDI output to a signal amplifier/splitter for viewing in other parts of the building

If you have done this successfully or tried this, how did it work for you? What do you see on the output--the video plus the audio, or the computer screen?

Hi Paul,

You'll see the incoming video on the card's output when it is in capture mode.

Thanks, Kristian, I sure appreciate you taking the time to let me know! Do you happen to know if the camera picture in the HD-SDI output will be accompanied by the incoming sound from either the AES input or the analog input? The camera itself (Sony EVI HD1) does not have a microphone as far as I know.
