I can't get any video monitoring signal from the decklink card. just snow. The BNC cables are old but in great shape. The card is installed properly and shows up in AE. I am not going to a deck but straight to my monitor. I know the cable is good because I connected it to the BNC out on my Canon xh-a1 and then to my monitor (bypassing card) and it worked. Thoughts?

Ok so if the signal coming from the decklink is digital what is the easiest and cheapest way to convert it to analog

i'd stick with a AJA Mini coverter. they have D to A composite but you'll be better off with a component version, but then you'll need a component monitor. Terrestrial Composite broadcast is on its way out in 2009(and it sucks anyway), at least thats here in the USA.

you can even go with a HD link HD-SDI to DVI and just plug a good monitor like the apple cinema display and that'll work good..

Reggie, which card do you have, and what kind of monitor are you going to? Sounds like you may be sending 24p to a monitor that can't handle it.

I have the declink card (295.00 one) going to a Panasonic CT 2086 y. I think I have figured out that the monitor doesn't take SDI even though it has BNC connectors on it. I now know there are BNC SDI and BNC composite and God only knows what else. SOoooooo I need a converter like the AJA D5CE which I almost got last night for 200.00 but was out bid. Thanks though for the time to take a look and help. Don't think frame rate is the problem. Wonder what the cheapest SDI monitor would cost used...

I'd try a BM hdlink for $420 and you can use any dvi display you want. That will drive sd/hd monitors via dvi and allow for a 1D LUT to calibrate the display (also has a blue only mode). You may find an old CRT with an SDI board, but it's likely to cost more.

Yes, the Blackmagic Decklink Extreme at $895 was the product you should have purchased at the beginning, but you didn't. So now you need to convert SDI to composite video -

this is what you do -

http://www.markertek.com/SearchProduct.asp?item=AJA%2DD4E&off=0&sort=prod&s...

this is the AJA D4E - it will convert SDI to composite video, and it costs $225 BRAND NEW at Markertek.

How do you hear audio - well, you can listen to the audio output of your MAC, but it will be out of sync. One of the cheapest solutions, is one of Blackmagic's oldest solutions - to buy a set of Edirol speakers -

http://www.markertek.com/SearchProduct.asp?item=EDI%2DMA15D&off=0&sort=prod...

This is $179 for the pair. If you don't want to spend $179, you can get the Behringer SDPIF to Analog converter, and plug this into your conventional amplifier. But if you try to connect to your consumer TV audio RCA plug, you will get distortion, because the level coming off of any professional product will be too high for that little RCA plug on the back of the TV. Get the Edirols - it's the least aggrivation.
Oops -
http://www.markertek.com/SearchProduct.asp?item=BEH%2DMS20&off=0&sort=prod&...

The Behringer MS20 speakers have SPDIF input too, and they are only $99 for the pair !

Well the good news is I only paid 150.00 for the decklink card and then there is that whole stupid "more than two gig of ram" thing. So I might just sell this and spring for the card you recommend

fyi, not sure if blackmagic ever fixed this problem they havent with the multibridge yet. the D to A component analog side works as expected but the A to D side still has problems, you'll never get a proper setup on the output.

I had the issue with my multibride extreme until I checked the "use betacam levels" option in the decklink applet.

I wish it was that easy, i know beta and smpte level. I tested the yrb A to d straight into a BVW75, D-Beta and the Multibridge will not send proper signal out the yrb A to D in ntsc, but pal is fine. I've tried a few MB's and all the software versions and still no worky.. Maybe they fixed it on the extreme??

do you mean capturing via analog component on your multibridge is a problem?

what exactly do you mean by that? for example if you send bars to the component inputs, and you have a vectorscope up are you saying it won't properly align to a calibrated signal?

I do have that problem BUT only on the Multibridge Extreme COMPOSITE output and there is nothing I can do to fix it.

Is that the problem you have but on the component inputs of the multibridge pro?

Black Magic Design definitely needs to fix this if its a problem.
