Vista 64-bit OS does not recognize camera
by Mike Anderson on Oct 11, 2009 at 7:05:03 pm

I have an DVX100B and cannot get my Vista 64-bit OS to recognize it via firewire.
I know the firewire is good because it always recognizes a Sony video camera I have.
Are there any tricks to getting this to work?

Is your camera in camera mode instead of into VTR mode, which is how it should be set?

Hi Dave,
Thanks for responding. I've tried all kinds of things and yes it's in camera mode. I'm at the point now where I think it's the videocam port that's the problem, so I'll have to have it checked out.

Hey, wait a minute: you're not trying to use that cheesy Windows Import Wizard, are you?

No. Just trying to get the computer to beep when the firewire's plugged in, like it does with the Sony videocam. :) Otherwise, I'm using Vegas to do the capturing.

[Mike Anderson] "...I'm using Vegas to do the capturing. "

Ah. And I wouldn't be surprised to learn that Sony and Panasonic have two slightly different machine control protocols, which must b accounted for.

If you haven't done it already, I'd check on the Vegas forum. Most of the folks here do their work in Final Cut Pro, which isn't anything like Vegas.
