NTSC PANASONIC in PAL country
by Bogdan Stakic on Jun 29, 2009 at 5:50:54 pm

Hey, I have a huge debate raging here. We planing to buy Panasonic AG-HVX 200 camera in States because they are cheaper. We do stuff for television and some documentaries. Question is , how much of the hassle is NTSC to PAL conversation? And how much is quality loss. Is it worth the effort?

Thanx

It's not just the NTSC to PAL conversion which will look bad. The major issue is you'll get lights flickering due to 50 cycles vs 60 cycles of electricity if you shoot an NTSC camera in PAL land. And that's something that looks horrible and cannot be corrected in post. If you are in a PAL land- get a PAL model HVX200.

I was told that if you film in High Definition, NTSC/PAL formatting becomes a non-issue. Is this true?

It's still at NTSC/PAL frame rates- flickering is still the problem.
