Capture settings in FCP for Letterboxed Footage
by Martha Shane on Sep 20, 2008 at 10:02:01 pm

Hi,

I captured some footage using FCP that was shot with the Panasonic DVX100B on letterbox mode. When capturing, I didn't check the 'anamorphic' box because I thought letterboxed footage should be captured as if it's 4:3

When I looked at the Quicktimes that were made, however, the image looks further stretched horizontally than it should.

Any ideas what settings I should be using?

Thanks!

Martha

Yes you want to check the anamorphic checkbox. All that does is tell FCP to stretch into a 16:9 shape. You can also just change it in your browser bin in FCP, go to the anamorphic setting and check it on. DV NTSC footage is always 720x480 whether 16:9 or 4:3, it's just the shape of the pixels. This might help:
