DVX100 24p footage: Rendering Problems
by Cameron Dozier on Aug 26, 2008 at 11:28:55 pm

Hello,

I have read various threads and answers regarding the proper way to capture 24p and 24pA footage. I have not had a problem in the past capturing these video formats, and understand how the camera generates the 29.97fps in the 24p mode, so you can edit simply using the DV-NTSC 29.97fps setting. However, I recently captured some 24p (not 24pA) video footage, shot with my DVX100a, using the DV-NTSC 29.97 fps settings, and the sequence is set to these attributes as well. Now with the footage in my timeline, I have to render every bit of footage, whenever it is put in my sequence, in order to edit. It is extremely frustrating and time consuming to guess and check when I am trying to solve this problem, and was wondering if anyone else has had this problem, or knows how to correct it. Don't know if its a stupid mistake or something complicated, please let me know.

Check your clip settings and compare to your sequence settings. Any time you have rendering there is a mismatch between your clips and the sequence settings- typically frame rate, field order, codec or frame size.

Noah,

I really appreciate the response. You know, Final Cut Pro can be fickle and strange sometimes, at least in my experience. I checked the clip settings and compared them to my sequence settings, and they might as well have been twins. So, I started a new file, started completely over, captured the footage the correct way, as I had done before, and the problem has been solved. This happened to me in college when I was having problems with my aspect ratio; the program was constantly exporting files with the wrong aspect ratio, contrary to what the settings were. I ended up having to import my footage into a different saved final cut pro document, where the problem didn't occur for past projects. Annoying and strange. Once again, thanks for the reply.
