Hot Connection

I am using the DVX 100B for a few years but suddenly I have a very hot connection on my XLR input. I have to keep the input to 2 or 3 to record and then when the sound drops the camera does not pick up anything.
No problem when I use the on camera mic.
Any suggestions. Do any of the settings need checking.

Probably a loose connection internally. I'd get it in for a service repair. Probably not too expensive and that camera's age it's not a bad time to go for a full cleaning/checkout while your at it.

Actually, the type of connector does not determine the level of the feed. If your XLR is connected to a microphone, you'll have MIC level. If it's coming from something else, it's more likely to be LINE level.
