DVX into FCP .. Q's
by Ralph Watson on Dec 22, 2007 at 10:21:30 pm

Hi all,

I've just invested in a PAL DVX100B (I'm in England) and a Macbook Pro - installed Final Cut Studio 2.

I need a run through on what's the best process to capture the cam into FC and also what FPS I should be shooting in / editing at.. all the footage is for music videos so will be TV.

Am I right in thinking that I should shoot in 24p - which is better: 24p vs 24pa? Also, if 24p is playable in all regions - why is there an issue with PAL vs NTSC and our differing standards? Wouldn't 24p work the same in all cases?

So far, I am guessing the following process.. please advise me on any points:
1: Shoot footage in 24p
2: Put DV tape into cheap camcorder for playback/transfer into MBP via Firewire 800
3: Use external hard-drive to write to - connected by USB / Firewire 400 ?
4: Edit inside FCP at 24p
5: Use DVD studio to output finished film to DVD or.... whatever is required

Is this right? I am new to this and don't want to get anything wrong.. thank you for any help everyone.

Kinda moot- a PAL DVX100 shoots only 25p no 24p. So you would capture as PAL DV at 25fps- no pulldown issues to deal with.
