Whats the film look (24p or 24p advanced)
by plainman007 (Plainman007) on Jul 16, 2006 at 8:11:33 pm

Hi guys,

Im planning to buy a Panasonic AG-DVX102B camera. I guess thats the model no for the DVX-100 in asia pacific (pal model). Now i know the film look is softer with more natural colors etc. Ive seen some screen grabs also that look very soft and not having the ultra vibrant video look. But can you guys who own and use this cam tell me in your own words. What the 24p look is like. Pal video is 25 frames. So is that almost like the film look. Please try to explain in laymans terms what this film look means. Does this mean its easier to shoot out of this cam and send for telecine to make ad films for cinema houses etc. Basical what is the look of this format. What are its technical avantages and disadvantages.

FYI - im planning to use this camera to shoot live events like stage rock shows. So you know the kind of theatrical lighting im talking about. Mostly moving heads, and special effects lighting. I cant have planned film style lighting. And the camera is gonna move about showing the audience and onto the stage etc. Not just tripod mounted. Also i want this cam to be showing what im shooting, live on a giants screen thru the lcd projector. Will this cam suit these needs ?? All your help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Both- 24p and 24pA look identical. 24pA is used with editing software that is 24pA aware for simpler editing.

Hey come on guys be a little kind here. I would just like in few words what you might decribe film look as to a novice. Im a novice in this. So help out plz. You have the camera and would be in a much better position of giving me a hands down on the quality. And really want to know if i can project what im shooting live on the giant screen. I cover a variety of shows including a lot of magic performers live on stage so id have to show the audience the small close up trick that hes performing on giantscreen thru LCD projection. So we will have the moon spot on him and we will have to get a tight shot of the hands etc. Will this camera be good for these kind of settings. Because if it involves a lot of setup for every small lighting change (like from moonspot on hands seq to a large illusion performance with all the stage lights and par cans on) and we cant keep changing between the show. Will this camera suit this scenario ?? Thanks.

Check this article out. FYI- film look= what you see in a movie theater. Video look= what you see on CNN.
