Rave HD split audio

Ramona,

Does the RaveHD vtr-emulation support split audio/video recording like a regular tape-VTR can ?

Yves,

If your asking can we take feeds from different sources while recording, absolutely.

The audio can come either as embedded in the SDI (up to 16 channels) or 8 channels of AES from whatever source.

Now we can't do a live dub yet once the frames reside on the system (or at least no easy way in the GUI) but you can certainly take up to 16 waves and assign them back to a shot, which is what is happening in this image.

We are working on adding in audio slipping on a per channel basis for a current customer so expect this to roll in shortly.

Cheers,
Ramona

To be clear: The customer wants to do sequence-recording. That means he wants to record video on a running sequence (Insert edit or video dub).
That means he has to be able to toggle the recording of video and/or audio channels independently while recording.
This is something a GVG K2 can't do right now (and probably never will).

I will plan a visit to Color by Dejonghe anyway to look at your system and see the features.

Yves,

Well we can certainly do the insert however the toggle may be a bit more tricky as now we would need to deal with the 14 frames stored in the board differently.

On a insert say from the Telecine or a deck, we watch the timecode and the insert into the RaveHD clip is being done based on that, dead on accurate.

Toggling video and audio on/off during capture isn't an issue, yes we can do this, it's emptying the buffer to be dead on accurate that's tricky.

will have to think about this one.

Just another question:

When you do an Insert edit towards the RaveHD, do you keep the video that is overwritten?

Yves,

No. It completely overwrites anything you are inserting, just like you would get with doing it on tape.

RaveHD allows you to insert a single frame or sequence of frames either thru an insert edit as a video stream or simply by replacing the frame in the folder.

Now if you want to keep old stuff, that's an easy one. Create a copy and insert to the new clip :). Since we are not going over the network, wicked fast......

You will find that with RaveHD it's not about doing things one way rather about a way that works best for you. We try not to set policy in these types of items.

Cheers,
Ramona
