Does anyone know the best inexpensive way to get one of the Canon Vixia pictures into a Macbook then through Skype for a poor-mans streaming alternative? I take it the HDMI output on the VIXIA might be the answer, and they might use a separate audio input going through a more professional audio system. It's essentially a teaching/lecture session in which they need the throw of a more telephoto lens than can be had from a webcam. I looked at Dazzle as an interface possibility, but am wondering if any of you have used some alternatives for a system that would do this? Thanks.

So it's a 13" Macbook Pro they will use. It has Thunderbolt, Firewire 800, and an SDXC card slot.

So I take it one can simply use a HDMI to Thunderbolt adapter cable to get the signal in?

Blackmagic Intensity Extreme

Intensity Shuttle Thunderbolt will be out "soon" and about $60 less even.
Both are powered by the Thunderbolt port.

Unknown is whether Skype will recognize it. Since Skype 5.0 (now up to 5.7 on Mac) it seems they keep breaking and fixing input compatibility with their updates.
