I have many years experience in corporate video but I am somewhat new to the streaming part of the business, hopefully some one can shed some light on the options available.
The company I work for is in the process of setting up a Interactive Flash media server to stream and archive live programs. I will need to edit the archived version for On-Demand. The techs working to set it up are looking at using the .fv4 format as an archive format. I am presently using Vegas pro 8.o to edit the programs in .wmv, but with the new flash content I am looking to change edit software. I was leaning to Adobe Premiere CS4, but I have found that there are issues with editing a .f4v file in premiere cs4
2 questions:
1. Are there other choices of archive formats in Flash media server?
2.any other edit programs that can handle flash format? (this place is almost all PC based)

sorry for the long post.
Thanks!

[Thomas Wildgen] "The techs working to set it up are looking at using the .fv4 format as an archive format."

They need to get their heads examined. F4V is a delivery format, NOT an archive format.

[Thomas Wildgen] "1. Are there other choices of archive formats in Flash media server? "

The terms 'Archive' and 'Flash media server' go as well together as 'Fish' and 'Motorbike'.

[Thomas Wildgen] "2.any other edit programs that can handle flash format? (this place is almost all PC based) "

One last time: Flash is a DELIVERY format, it's not and never has been designed to be edited. You edit, finish, archive and then transcode to Flash.

Do you have any suggestions? I am aware of the issues regarding F4v, I am looking for alternatives. but my hands are tied,in terms of Flash format. Our business partner is streaming LIVE in the flash format, and I need to be able to trim/edit and turn these around to post as On-Demand content on our site.

I am sure that this is not a unique issue. how are other people handling this?

You need a recording of the event from camera/mixer that's feeding the stream. You edit/trim the raw footage not the Flash stream.

NOBODY is editing the final Flash stream (well, only spotty teenagers are)
NOBODY is archiving the Flash stream (even the spotty teenagers)
