Can MP4 hav an alpha channel? If so, anyone know of a program that can convert avi with alpha to mp4?

This seemed like the best place to post this question on creativecow... I'm having some trouble searching google for this as all I get is info about converting swf's to mp4... I am wondering if it is possible to convert an avi to an mp4 and to keep the alpha channel from the avi (can mp4 support an alpha channel?), does anyone know of a software that can do this as the ones I have tried so far don't seem to be able to.. thanks

The MPEG-4 'Simple Studio Profile' standard does support alpha channels as does H.264. You have an easier time tracking down an encoder that supports H.264 alpha than you will finding one that does it with MPEG-4 SSP

Thanks for the info I am looking into an h.264 encoder that supports this which seems a bit hard to find but I am still hoping there is one that I can find.

I'm fairly sure Episode from Telestream can.

I checked out that software but couldn't find any mention of alpha channel for any of the formats, I have confirmed now that h.264 can have an alpha channel as I saw a document on Apple's website for the quicktime player that confirmed this (as Daniel already mentioned I believe) but I just can't seem to find a software that can convert to an .h264 while preserving the alpha channel.... seems so far everyone has resigned themselves to using the flv format (from the posts I have found about this topic) which is unfortunate since the quality / size is worse than the h.264 format
