Help me explain streaming to a network administrator

I work at a church where we have been experimenting streaming live services on the internet. We have a Newtek Tricaster but we have had trouble obtaining permission to put it on our internal network and set up a means to stream from our website.
In the meantime, we have used Livestream.com on a laptop through our wireless internet connection with good results. However, our network admin said that streaming in this way somehow opens our firewall to vulnerabilities and is therefore a bad idea. Livestream just goes through port 80 and 1935, which doesn't appear to be anything weird, right?
Can someone help me explain/understand this? I'm much less of an IT guy than a video guy, so maybe I just don't get it?
