by Dave Case on Aug 28, 2007 at 6:13:02 pm

I am about to begin producing a daily video segment that will be used on a website. I am checking around for info about the best type of editing hardware, software for editing/flash encoding and dv camera that would produce high quality video for the web. I will be editing on the road so it will need be a laptop computer system, perferably PC. Any segestions would be very helpful. Thanks

Editing DV on a laptop with one slow hard drive can be frustrating without an external drive for video files.

Keep in mind you don't want to work with interlaced footage if you can avoid it - So either buy a camera that shoots Progressive (non-interlaced) video or make sure you understand how to de-interlace you footage in a video editor.

Compress your video using a compression program - not your editor - or even Flash. Programs like Squeeze or Flix Pro can give you great video quallity at much lower file sizes.

Compression is very processor intensive, so the better the processor (and sometimes the more of them you have) the faster things will go. Compression is time consuming, and you often have to do it more than once before you're satisfied with your settings.

I'm sorry for shamelessly pushing my DVD lately, but I cover all of this and much more in my new Creative Cow Master Series DVD - Internet Killed the Video Star: A guide to creating Video for the Web - you can find it at http://training.creativecow.net/
