file conversion suggested software?

Hello all,
I could use some suggestions for a file conversion program to convert DIVX to WMV. I get these files occasionally and the software that was here before me (Divx Converter), seems to have little in terms of advance settings etc...I need to convert the files to run on the web server here. I presently use Windows Media Encoder to do the bulk of the work.
Any suggestions? I do have some budget, so it does'nt have to be shareware or freeware, but does need to be windows XP compatible. Any suggestions as to what everybody is using is most welcome!

Windows Media Encoder 9 is as good as you can get, except for batch processing and that it does not plug into NLEs like Premiere. Sorenson Squeeze and Canopus Procoder are favorites of many and the later does plug into Premiere.

Mike,
I agree the Media encoder 9 is pretty good, but it won't do Divx files. I will look into Sorensen squeeze, The software they have here is Vegas 7.0. Are you aware of any that will act as a plug-in for Vegas? I will post a question over on the vegas forum.
Thanks for the input.

I think you will need the Divx encoder. My experience is with Premiere and even though the codec is installed and Divx appears as an option, it does not work.

Thanks,
Getting the Divx encoder may be the only way, but will it let convert to WMV? Does anyone out there have the same issue? I don't know much about Divx, but I do have 1 client that will send us those files about 2-4 times a yr. They tell me they have asked for it in WMV but we're not sure they communicated that to their supplier, so they pass it to me to convert.
P.S. Did You say that premiere will accept Divx files? or do they need to be converted before importing?

While most NLEs offer Windows Media encoding, DIVX encoding is only available with the DIVX encoder (codec) installed...and DIVX encoder only does DIVX.
Converting from one format to another degrades the video quality.
Premiere opens DIVX files on my PC because I have several additional apps installed...DIVX encoder, K-Lite Codec pack and FFDshow. Real time playback is poor.
