Is windows media encoder 9 my best option for live streaming?
Is there anything comparable for mac?

Windows Media Encoder 9 can do as well as any other PC encoder for encoding and pushing your video to a server...plus it is free. Biggest draw back is no batch encoding.

There aren't any native WMV live encoders for Mac, but Windows Media Encoder and other software live encoders work just fine on an Intel Mac booted into Windows via Boot Camp.

I don't recommend using Parallels for live encoding due to its performance limitations (among other things, it only runs on one core).
