Hi! I'm compressing 6 minute video sequences with Windows Media Player 7 codec.
I figured this was the best codec to use as it will work on MOST peoples machines (broadband).
I did a compression test between codec 7, 8 and 9 at 320x240 208kbps and there seems to be no difference between these codecs at this size.
My Probelm is...
When the video is streaming off of the net, I am able to right click on the video, goto properties, and get all the information about the clip ie; bit rate, location, video codec, audio codec.
I am wanting to withhold this information from my viewer...Is this possible?

I don't know of any way to do that.
I also can't imagine any good reason to do it.
As for codecs, I think WMV9 is safe for most consumerish applications now. The only place where WMV9 isn't generally available is on managed corporate desktops.

I believe if you use an index file (.asx, .wvx) the player properties will show the location of the index file, not the wmv.
However, I'm unable to immediately confirm that right now because most of my embedded players are protected by scripts which prevent right clicking. You can find such scripts on the javascript archives. This only works in a player embedded in a web page which is a popup window with no menu or toolbars. And lets face it - short of DRM running on WM server there isn't perfect protection available, you merely cut down on casual downloading.
