I am using a Mac Intel with the latest version of FCP. I am trying to import an Avid AAF file and use existing media. The original media is HDV. When I import, all of the clips are offline and I see "You tried to import an OMF or AAF file containing media or references to media that this version of Automatic Duck Pro Import does not understand. I just bought AD so it should be the latest version.

I still have not been able to use existing media when importing from avid to fcp. Is there somewhere with detailed instructions on how to do this? There seems to be lot of variables, and I am probably missing one.

It would be best to submit a support case. Be sure to include your zipped logs folder, the form tells you where to get this.
Please, in your support request go beyond "I can't get it to work." Please describe what is happening, what errors you're getting, what exactly you're seeing instead of what you expect to see.
Get the AVID codec... by Francois Stark on Jul 23, 2008 at 3:03:09 pm
Hi Andy
I have the same system. We did the following:
Format a firewire drive to NTFS. Connect to PC AVID.
Consolidate media to this new firewire drive on the avid, using "convert media" setting, and select a DNxHD codec. This is a slow process - be prepared to spend time on this.
Once you have a new sequence on the avid that references the new DNxHD clips on the firewire drive, select this sequence and export AAF with links to the new media.
Download AVID's newest quicktime codec for mac and install it on the FCP system. This will enable quicktime (and FCP) to play the reference qt files still in the AVID OMFI files folder on the ntfs firewire drive.
Eject the NTSC drive and connect to the FCP system. Use audomatic duck to import the AAF sequence. It creates a folder on the FCP system's desktop containing quicktime reference files, which refers to the original (new) DNxHD media on the NTFS firewire drive.
Now Wes, we have an AVID sequence containing HD clips from Panasonic P2, HDV and XDCAM HD. This process outlined above works perfectly for the XDCAM and HDV clips, but the P2 clips fail. Automatic duck says it can not find them, even though the AVID transcoded all the media to DNxHD! How does that work? The XDCAM and HDV clips all work when transcoded to DNXHD, the P2 clips (native DVCPRO hd 1080i 50) don't.
P2 clips just don't work. by Francois Stark on Jul 23, 2008 at 3:55:07 pm
So we have tried the following with the avid clips that originated from P2 in the AVID:
Consolidate (Any HD source format) with no conversion: AVID crashes.
Transcode to DNxHD 180: automatic duck fails.
Transcode to DNxHD 120: automatic duck fails.
Transcode to DNxHD 180 and then again to DNxHD 120: automatic duck fails.
Transcode to 1080i 1:1 AVID codec: automatic duck fails.
When automatic duck fails, it replaces the media with a graphic that states it can not find the source media when it did the conversion process.
However, all the clips originating on XDCAM HD and HDV, work when transcoded to DNxHD and then imported into FCP using Automatic duck.
Don't forget to zip your logs folder and include it on the form.
"/Library/Application Support/Automatic Duck/Supporting Files/logs"
You'll get an auto-reply with info on where you can upload your Avid AAF file and MXF media files, zip all the files and upload to the web address in that email.

Hi Wes
We figured out that we could import the P2 footage direct into FCP. Just connect the Avid's media drives direct to the mac, and import the AAF containing just P2 media. It wouldn't work when we tried to convert it to DNxHD first.
However, the HDV and XDCAM footage would not work if we tried to import it direct - we had to transcode all of it to DNxHD in the avid first.
