There are two thIngs to consider, editing and archiving.

Heads up. In Resolve 8.2.2 you might crash looking at the DNG files.
Also of note, using Adobe CS5.5 and CS6 Premiere Pro you will not be able to import all sequences in the same project.
You might have to create a few.

No need for seperate events. I would simply create different keyword collections for the 4 products. You can also create and stack folders in the event.
You can have shots in different keyword collections, so the factory-overview can be in every | | | | |

It worked. I've tried this before to drop an MXF file in the Clip folder but for some reason it worked yesterday. :) one thing I had to do was to rename the MXF to the next file number on the disc, C0005 for example. It copied quickly and played out | | | | |

I would give it a shot without transcoding. You can always look into it and replace footage if you see the system is slowing down too much.

I usually add a Bars/slate/black sequence clip and drop it in the beginning of the edit. Slates are soft text over background. Copy and revise.

I think your first problem is using a Firewire drive for your media. You need a much faster system to playback large HD files using the Mercury Playback Engine.
