There are two thIngs to consider, editing and archiving. Separate events might be easier editing if there's not a lot of crossover with your media. I do that with my work projects, and have an event called "elements" where I place common things.

Another thing I do with tracks if I have quite a few is to group them which puts them out of the way while I'm not working on them. That really cleans up the workspace.

I would give it a shot without transcoding. You can always look into it and replace footage if you see the system is slowing down too much. I have not transcoded anything on Premiere for the last few years.

Hi Richard, Edit in HD, AVCHD Preset. Export HD. When it comes time for the SD version, create a new SD sequence, drop the HD sequence into it. Pan left and right if needed.
