then you could time the freeze to the frame right after the particles are born...

if you need to 'pause' gravity, you could try keyframing the physics time factor. 0 will freeze the particle systems movement, keyframing back to 1 will take it back to normal.

the problem with this one is that the camera is in that other comp and it animates the pre-composed map with strokes as a picture. which means that 3d strokes are flat 2d. maybe there is another way how to do that?
