I use Camtasia to create tutorials, and it gives the option of recording as .camrec files, or .avi files. I choose .avi and import the result directly into Premiere. Uncompressed files are very large, better to use the Techsmith codec .avi clip nativ

AND - In AE CS3 the TechSmith codec file reimported with the alpha intact, but not in CS5. Odd indeed. Still can't get PPT 2003-2010 to recognize alpha on either Uncompressed AVI or TechSmith version.

Depending on what camera you are using, you might be able to use the camera as a "Video Playback" device (select it towards the bottom of the "view" dropdown menu). Then, just set it to VTR or VCR mode and record while you play back in the timeline.

Thanks for clarifying John. I just ignored the part about uninstalling the 64-bit version of vegas to use the 32bit. I just wanted to use my old version of vegas for my project since that's what I started it in (even though it works in vegas 9 32bit)

Thanks so much for your help. I found out what the issue was. I should have mentioned that I am in fact running the 64bit version of vegas 9. The problem was that the .avi files that only imported audio were all captured using camtasia studio's 32bit

What version of Vegas are you using? If it's one of the 64-bit versions of Vegas Pro then that's your problem. The Techsmith codec that your video uses doesn't support 64-bits. You'll have to use the 32-bit version of Vegas instead. ~jr www.johnrof
