I just kept hearing this being said, here and on the Avid help forums. And since Michael Phillips used to work at Avid, for YEARS, I trust what he says. Plus he edits too...so he was in both worlds, so he has practical experience as well.

Just to throw my hat into the ring...transcoding was a good thing. Trying to edit H.264 in Avid for anything longer than 1 min will be problematic...slow and cumbersome. Avid isn't designed to work with H.264 files...it is designed to work with Avid | | | | |

Research how other press kits are delivered...what format are they in? That's what I'd do. Typically for press kits for movies, I've seen DVCPRO HD. But that is FCP only. DNxHD and ProRes QTs are more universal, but have much larger file sizes. | | | | |

That is why you SLATE shots. A common marker that is visual and well as audible. You mark an IN point where the slate closes. Did they not do that?

This is why I use ScreenFlow. You capture the full screen, choose a dimension you want the final to be, and then edit and resize in the application.

Any supported video IO device will work. ON the less expensive side of things, you have the Decklink Intensity and Intensity Pro, Matrox MXO2 Mini. Those coupled with a GOOD HDTV will get you a decent image. Fine for color correcting things you want | | | | |
