Just to throw my hat into the ring...transcoding was a good thing. Trying to edit H.264 in Avid for anything longer than 1 min will be problematic...slow and cumbersome. Avid isn't designed to work with H.264 files...it is designed to work with Avid

Research how other press kits are delivered...what format are they in? That's what I'd do. Typically for press kits for movies, I've seen DVCPRO HD. But that is FCP only. DNxHD and ProRes QTs are more universal, but have much larger file sizes.

What specific camera? Because I know many file based cameras that shoot to Fat32 drives and card formats that break up the files into multiple parts on long takes, and they don't have gaps of any kind.
