My guess is that you have other effects applied to both events and it matters if they fall before or after the pan/crop. Look to the top line of your event chain and move fx to the other side of pan/crop. I can explain it in pictures if you need to

Assuming the text isn't 3d...you can do that with event masking. Just create individual paths over all the letters in your text. Set them to negative and then animate them out of the way over time.

GIMP is free (open source) and is very similar to Photoshop. http://www.gimp.org/ If you don't want to spend the time learning it tonight, post the image on a file sharing site like Dropbox and I'll be glad to adjust it for you.

Also, the picture when I merely resize it in Vegas doesn't cause any of this glitching in the rendered video. It seems to only be when I cut a mask around it and put it in the corner of the screen that it clashes with the other layers of video.

I would bring the jpeg into Photoshop, get rid of what I didn't need and save it as a PNG (to keep the alpha channel). Bring that into Vegas and use Pan/Crop to position and resize as needed.

I would animate a garbage mask around the cloth; it's a lot easier than rotoscoping, because you don't have to be anywhere near as precise in your masking. Then I would use either the Change Color or Change To Color effects to change the cloth color

Tou cant go direct from Thunderbolt to a broadcast monitor. It does not sound like you have an existing capture card but if you do there are adapters which allow you to use PCIe crds with Thunderbolt so you could use say a Kona i/o card and adapt
